Design, Simulation, and Mechanical Testing of 3D-Printed Titanium Lattice Structures

Lattice structure topology is a rapidly growing area of research facilitated by developments in additive manufacturing. These low-density structures are particularly promising for their medical applications. However, predicting performance becomes challenging factor use. In this article, four lattice topologies explored suitability as implants the replacement segmental bone defects. The study introduces unit-cell concept designing and manufacturing structures, BCC, FCC, AUX, ORG, using direct melt laser sintering (DMLS). elastic modulus was assessed an axial compression strength test validated linear static FEA simulation. outcomes simulation revealed disparity between unit cell entire cases while full successful ORG. Measurements energy absorption obtained from testing that ORG had highest absorbed (350 J) compared with others. observed failure modes indicated sudden collapsing pattern during BCC FCC designs, our inspired AUX lattices outperformed others terms structural integrity under identical loading conditions.
